We show up with the plotter output, the prep supplies and the tools; we clean and degrease the panels on site; and we apply premium Avery, 3M and Orafol cast film so the color holds for years and comes off cleanly when the truck leaves the fleet. How much does truck lettering cost in New Jersey?
It depends on the size of the vehicle, how many panels are lettered and whether the work is cut vinyl or printed. Simple door lettering with a phone number and USDOT number is the least expensive; a full wrap is the most. Send a photo through the quote form and you get a real number back rather than a range.
How long does the lettering last?
Cast film applied to a properly prepared surface generally lasts several years of outdoor service, and laminated prints resist fading considerably longer than unlaminated ones. Washing matters: brush washes are hard on edges, and a touchless wash will add life.

Why a mobile sign shop makes sense for a working vehicle
A truck sitting at a sign shop earns nothing. Mobile lettering removes that cost entirely: we come to your yard, letter the vehicle where it stands, and it goes back to work without a trip to a shop.
For an owner-operator, three days off the road is three days of revenue gone to buy signage. For a fleet, it is worse — drop off two trucks at a time and a ten-vehicle re-letter turns into two weeks of disruption. Neither of those costs shows up on the sign shop quote, which is why they are easy to miss when comparing prices.
Lombardo Lettering has been doing it this way since 1940, across three generations of the same family. What started as hand-painted lettering on Chester’s West Main Street is now cut vinyl and full digital wraps, but the working method has not changed: the shop goes to the customer.
How mobile lettering actually works
Mobile lettering means the sign shop travels instead of the vehicle. We cut and prepare the graphics before we leave, then apply them at your yard, driveway or job site — so the truck is off the road for hours rather than days.
The order matters more than most people expect. Everything that can be done away from your vehicle is done first: the layout is proofed, the film is printed or cut, and the panels are weeded and taped ready to hang. That is the slow part, and it happens at the shop.
What happens at your address is the part that needs the vehicle present — cleaning and de-greasing the panels, positioning and hinging the graphics, squeegeeing them down, trimming around handles, rivets and body lines, and post-heating the edges so they stay put. How long it takes depends on the vehicle and how much goes on it, and we give you an estimate with the quote.
Temperature is the one thing that can move a booking. Vinyl adhesive needs the panel warm enough to bond properly, so in deep winter we work around the weather rather than through it. If a job cannot be done safely outdoors on the day, we say so rather than applying film that will lift in a month.

The film we use, and why it matters
We fit cast vinyl from Avery Dennison, 3M and Orafol. Cast film is made by pouring liquid resin and letting it cure without stress, so it stays dimensionally stable on curves and rivets — which is why it lasts years longer on a vehicle than the cheaper calendared alternative.
Calendared film is squeezed through rollers under tension. It holds that tension, and over time it tries to shrink back to the shape it was pushed into. On a flat shop window that barely matters. On a truck door with a curve and a body line, it is the reason graphics lift at the corners and shrink away from the edges after a couple of seasons.
Manufacturers publish durability ratings for their films, and the gap is not subtle: premium cast products are typically rated for several times the outdoor life of an economy calendared product. Those ratings assume the film is applied correctly to a properly prepared surface, which is the other half of the job.
We laminate printed work. An unlaminated print is exposed to UV, road salt, brush washes and grit; a laminate takes that abuse instead of the ink. It is a cost most shops can quietly skip, and you find out three summers later when the reds have gone pink.

Getting the legal markings right
If you run a commercial vehicle, federal rules set what has to appear on it. Under 49 CFR § 390.21 a self-propelled commercial motor vehicle must display the operating carrier’s legal name or single trade name and its USDOT number, on both sides, in letters that contrast sharply with the background and are legible from 50 feet in daylight.
That is the part most owners get wrong by accident — not by ignoring it, but by having a sign shop size the lettering to look right rather than to meet the rule. We size and place name, city and USDOT numbers the way an inspector expects to see them, and we will tell you if what you have asked for would fail.
